Task Forces

HECA supports the following teams:

  • The Decarbonization of Transportation Task Force advocates for legislation accelerating the transition to electric vehicles. Learn more at hawaiiev.org/2025-policy-priorities.

  • The Carbon Cashback Task Force supports legislation that taxes fossil fuel distributors to discourage the consumption of fossil fuels and distributes the tax revenue to people in equal shares, creating a net financial benefit for most Hawaii families. Learn more at carboncashbackhawaii.org.

  • The Oceans Task Force advocates for legislation prohibiting sunscreens with harmful ingredients for reefs, legislation prohibiting the gathering of aquarium fish from Hawaii’s waters, and legislation accelerating the conversion of Hawaii’s 88,000 cesspools, which pollute groundwater and surface waters. To learn more about bills relevant to this task force, please get in touch with the team at oceanhui25@gmail.com.

  • The Plant-Based Task Force advocates for climate and environmentally friendly policies through education and citizen lobbying and urges the government to stop subsidizing unhealthy food. For more information, contact Gordon at gordonlabedz@gmail.com.

  • Care for 'Āina Now is on a mission to build visitor stewardship, conserve our cultural and natural resources, and invest in our ʻāina to keep our community safe. Learn more at careforainanow.org.

  • Buildings and Sequestration Task Force - Our purpose is to help organize community groups to promote healthy natural ecosystems and buildings that sequester carbon and mitigate climate heating. We support expanding local food systems based on healthy soils, with improved distribution for greater food security and less food waste. We work to minimize buildings’ life-cycle emissions and develop local production of sustainable building materials, including plants such as bamboo and hemp. We provide information and critical feedback on land and water use projects, energy, and developments that may impact existing or potential carbon sequestration opportunities. For more information, contact Ted Bohlen at tbohl8@yahoo.com.

  • The Climate Future Forum is dedicated to engaging youth in our democracy by building relationships between lawmakers and youth, conveying information about the legislative process and building skills to interact with it, taking part in the legislative session (e.g., tracking bills, submitting testimony), and empowering youth to amplify their voices by building coalitions. Bill that we support.  Learn more at www.climatefuturehawaii.org.
